NFL Offseason News
Here are the latest news and notes from the NFL Drew Brees put his foot in his mouth, Adrian Peterson thinks he'll be ready for the opener and Percy Harvin is requesting a trade.
*Drew Brees probably didn't use the right words when talking about the bounty saga on Monday. He compared the league's investigation and its findings to a hunt for "weapons of mass destruction" while his suspended current and former teammates were appealing their punnishments. He tweeted on Tuesday an apology "if the WMD comment offended anyone. Especially our military. There is no one I respect more than our service men and women." This offseason, Brees has spoken out before against the NFL's investigative process while watching his peers and head coach receive lengthy bans.
*Minnesota RB Adrian Peterson hopes to be back for the first game after continuing the rehabilitation for his surgically rebuilt knee. He's now nearly six months removed from Christmas Eve, when he tore his left ACL and MCL at Washington. He was left shot of 1,000 rushing yards for the first time in his career. It's probably unrealistic that he would be back in early September but if anybody can do it, it's A.P.
*In more Vikings news, WR Percy Harvin reportedly wants a change of scenery. The playmakers, who has been bothered by migraine headaches throughout his career, apparently is not happy and wants a trade. The 2009 Offensive Rookie of the Year is coming off his best season, racking up 1,312 yards from scrimmage and averaging 32.5 yards per kickoff return. He does have two years left on his contract and should have some leverage if he seeks a renegotiation as the Vikes wait on Adrian Peterson to recuperate. Harvin caught 87 passes in 2011 and ran the ball 52 times last year.
