Hockey is one of the easiest sports to bet on. Unlike football and basketball, hockey offers a money line, which is the most common method of betting the NHL.

There also totals and a puck line but the most popular mode of wagering is the money line, which is similar to baseball's. All you have to do is pick the winner as their is no point spread.

For example, in a typical NHL game, you could have Montreal (+110) and Washington (-130). If we release Washington, you will be asked to rlsk $130 to win $100, while Montreal bettors put down $100 to win $110.

Another option in hockey is betting over/unders. Totals very from game-to-game and usually range from 4-7 goals. Let's say a bettor places a $500 wager on the OVER in the Detroit/Tampa Bay game and the total is 6. In totals, the line rarely moves. A book might wish the bettor to risk $120 to win $100 (-120). If you bet the under, you would be able to wager at +100 or even money, as totals always use a 20-cent line.

Here are two examples of totals that are normally used:

Detroit vs. Chicago over 5.5 (-110)
Detroit vs. Chicago under 5.5 (-110)

Detroit vs. Chicago over 5.5 (-135)
Detroit vs. Chicago under 5.5 (+115)
